Har! I was just putting the finishing touches on the pic of YOU chimping away on your D .... Anyway, here's another part of the story:
Spent a little time with John Ceilo at Reed's camera shop in Walnut Creek, about a 30-minute drive east of Berkeley. John unfortunately was working, so we didn't have any time to go shooting, but he did check my camera with a known good SD card, ran through the menus, showed me a few things about setting up the camera more to my style of shooting and preference, and then grabbed the 77 Ltd from my camera and ran off to hide in his office, leaving me with his FA J 18~35. The 18~35 is supposedly a poor performer and cheaply made. Well, it's no Ltd, but it's better than some Pentax zooms I've used in the past. The plastic, made-in-Vietnam lens is very light weight, has a very short focus throw, and auto focuses pretty quickly and quietly compared to some other auto focus lenses I've used, which, admittedly, are few. However, I did like the quickness of it. It wouldn't be my choice for any critical work, but it might do nicely as a snapshot or travel lens. The light weight and quick response work in its favor, and if you're not making large prints - say you want to email photos to family or friends, or make 4x6 or even 5x7 prints for the family album or to send to friends, it seems like a nice, inexpensive choice. Here's a little happy snap. Tech stuff: istDS; 400 ISO, FAJ 18~35 @ 35mm, F6.3, 1/15 sec http://home.earthlink.net/~my-pics/johnchimps.html And thanks for your help, John ....
