WRONG- Pentax developed open aperture metering and AE support on the SCREWMOUNT series of lenses around 1972 well prior to even the very first K mount lens or bodies. ( SMCT lenses & Spotmatic F and ES/ESII bodies)
the K/M lenses were ALL designed for open aperture metering and AE support and even the first batch of bodies had a BODY that used these K/M features, it's the K2. So just because pentax offered a body like the MX or K1000 that didn't have all these features supported its incorrect to say the the K/M lenses were NOT designed for both open apeture metering and AE ( they were - & even the late screwmounts were). And even when pentax did offer these other bodies without K/M AE, they always had other models that fully supported all the K/M could do in the lineup at the same time. As many have pointed out, it's actually easier to use K & M lenses on a DSLR than an MX or K1000, the kind of cameras for which they were originally intended. -- Mark Roberts Photography and writing www.robertstech.com
