When I needed a replacement for my SF1 camera body, I was surprised that
Pentax no longer offered a versatile data back (one that could print more
than date & time on an image - an option that I think is most useless on an
upper end camera) for the PZ1 (like the data back offered for the SF1). I
had a long conversation with Pentax's then head of sales & marketing in the
U.S. He agreed that the SF1 data back was a great feature but he told me
that they (Pentax U.S.) had no say in what they got from Pentax Japan.
So unless things have changed, any effective petition to Pentax needs to go
to Pentax Japan. And even then I have my doubts that they will respond.

Pentax "illogical"?
No.
Japanese, yes.
Like the Japanese auto mfg. in Ohio where I work, they're engineering
driven.
They are neihter marketplace- nor marketing department-driven.
Hence Pentax will often make the very best, but be slower about it.
The unfortunate thing is that they are so slow. Someone always beats
them to the punch. (Which is what Honda & Toyota have learned and Detroit
has yet to learn.)
Any survey or petition by users will have no effect because the corporate
philosophy is not a suitable construct so to allow such to occur.
Pentax, in its current state, will always be 3rd-tier consumer/prosumer
camera
company. Good product, capable of fiscal survival, but third-tier.
(Canon & Nikon being the clear first-tier leaders and Sony, K-M covering
the
middle route. One might disagree with this categorization, but the point
remains
that P is lightweight in the field.)
