I would recommend against using the battery grip with such heavy lens on 
tripod. For handheld, the grip would improve handling a lot. But then the 
MZ-3 was made of plastic (don't be fooled by the metal mount), you should be 
careful when carrying around.

Just get the used F*300/4.5 ED IF will solve all the problems. There is one 
on eBay right now (from Henry's). I bought one from them without problem few 
months ago.
