Then it's the same as the D, just a different button. That should work fine for 
you Shel. It's a lot like shooting without a meter. When i'm working with K 
lenses, I pick my stop, aim at a neutral, evenly lit target and press the green 
button. If I'm satisfied with that shutter speed I'll then just continue 
shooting at that exposure until I see that the light has changed. Sometimes 
I'll hit the button a couple of times, aiming the camera a bit different to see 
the variance in exposure between two objects. But once I settle on an exposure 
I'll continue to work with it until my eye says that the light is different.
