Greg Scott suggests that one needs 1/10000 to freeze the wings.  It's been
my experience that you can fortuitously freeze them with 1/2000 *if* you
catch them at the apex of a wingbeat, ie. where the wing is reversinv
direction, but good luck replicating that, hee hee.

BTW, if you haven't seen his home page, it's really the most amazing
photography of birds in flight that I have ever seen.  He's at
http://www.gregscott.com/.  It's really quite humbling to see what he's
done.
