Seeing past the viewfinder was more important to me when videotaping and
walking at the same time.

The viewfinder on my 8.0 MP camera is 7/8" from the left side of the
body. Ergo, I use my right eye...
Good thing, because my left eye is a victim of a cataract! ;-)
Not a complaint, just a statement of fact!
It all works because I still have a workable vision for distant stuff,
and like Tom, I like to see what's going on outside of the viewfinder!
