Without knowing our actual numbers, I guestimate we'd probably come up with very similar results. On the up side, however, we're printing a TON of digital stuff. How are you guys doing in that arena?
For what it's worth, I've been having at least as many prints made since I got my DS. When I was shooting with my Nikon film camera, I would often develop the negative only, and then print only the frames I was truly interested in. I didn't usually have double prints made of every frame, like a lot of amateurs did. (Sorry, lab owners.)
When it comes to going back to the lab for REPRINTS, I have definitely been doing that more often, ever since they installed the digital kiosk at the local photo lab. I guess the more convenient it is to have a print made, the more likely I am to have it done. Also by using the kiosk, *I* am the person who decides how light or dark my prints should be, how much contrast they should have, etc -- and not some uninformed non-photographer working at the local photo lab for minimum wage. I suppose this is one of the biggest reasons I like the kiosk interface of the photo lab. It offers me direct control over the printing of my images, and gives me a useful preview on a video monitor before I approve the purchase. Using the kiosk, I've been happy with ALL my prints. I can't say the same about "the good ole days" of handing my negatives over to some worker-drone at the local minilab.
So I might be an exception, but I'm more likely to get prints made now, than ever before.
take care, Glen
