this is not quite correct. when using winXP pro and CS2, there's a way to get PS to use almost 3gb of memory. With 4gb of ram installed you'd set a "switch" in the boot.ini file that reads /3gb. Photoshop will then make use of about 2.7gb of ram, the rest going to other programs and the OS.
