The M35/2 is probably the most compact of all the 35mm lenses. It's
also quite good. However, I've parked mine on a shelf since obtaining
the FA35/2. The latter is a great lens and quite a bargain at around
$300 new.

I've used both the A35/2 and the FA35/2 on the istD.
Both are fine lenses. I'll trust Godfrey's comparison, I haven't
really compared that closely.
The 31/1.8 is a betterlens than either, but at the expense of expense,
size and weight. It also isn't hood friendly, though it doesn't seem
overly flare prone either.
Never used the K lenses mentioned.
