I suspect that the seller had someone put a shill bid in to drive the price up. I had something similar happen to me a few months ago. Someone outbid me on a camera. The seller contacted me and told me that the winner couldn't come up with the money. I was already uneasy and the whole thing started to sound extremely suspicious. I told him I was no longer interested.
