The D does reset from self timer to single shot, however it doesn't
reset from sequence shooting to single shot. I would guess that most
people would be more annoyed if they tried to take a fast photo and
couldn't, whereas those using self timer already have time to set up the
shot.

Geek talk...600mm Sigma mirror lens with a (crappy Vivitar) 2x
teleconverter. Missed every other shot because the camera kept
resetting itself.
