One annoying thing about the software in the *istDS (and I presume
the D too). The shooting mode resets after the camera shuts down. I
use the 2s timer and the remote mode often. But I am getting onto 40,
so I take my time with things. When the DS shuts down after I've
fuffed around, it resets the shooting mode to single shot. Very
annoying to have to set the function back.
The D can be set to *not* shut itself down (and mine has been set that
way since I got it, so I don't know if its shooting mode would reset
if it were to shut itself down. As a matter of fact, I'm not sure I
understand what you mean by "shooting mode.") Can the DS not be set to
stay on until specifically switched off by user?

(Guess I should have said Drive Mode). Yep, you can turn off the Auto
Power Off on the DS too, but this drains the battery pretty quickly (on
my camera anyway - I wonder why, it isn't doing very much and the meter
isn't on). Maybe my point is, I'd like a setup option so that the camera
wakes up in the mode that it went to sleep in.
I could leave the PZ1 on all the time because of the low power consumption.
