Yes it probably is.
But the *ist D is different:
The manual says (Troubleshooting p. 153) the shutter won't fire if the
aperture is set to other than A (or a lens without A-setting is attatched).
After the first firmware update, a new setting was introduced: "Aperture
other than A" in the MENU. Then the camera will fire without an A lens set
to A - that goes for no lens, bellows etc. as well.
