The *fun* though maybe the digital part of it, not just Pentax. Or is it
all the GREAT personalities on this list? ;-)

Hi Tom,
What now? Where is my existing collection of lenses that work on the Pentax
mount?! I could really put those to good use about now. You see, I was
purely a Nikon user before buying the *istDS, NOT a Pentax user. :)
I actually jumped from Nikon to Pentax when I went digital. Though I really
liked my Nikon gear, I've never had more fun with my photography, than
since I bought the Pentax *stDS this past summer. I'm afraid your argument
falls flat. ;)
take care,
Glen

The new 8MP Rebel acutally felt pretty nice in the hand, much like an *ist
D, very unlike the original Rebel D.

Having not released a better camera than the 'D' in almost two years, I

time?".
I would argue that the DS is a "better" camera, simply because of its
price. ;)
As for pretending to be a first-time DSLR buyer, I actually was a
first-time DSLR buyer this past summer. I looked at the Nikon, Canon,
Olympus, and Pentax DSLRs in the price category I could afford, and I
chose the Pentax *istDS. I don't think that Pentax and all the Pentax
lenses are going to disappear anytime soon. How many centuries do you
expect to use a digital camera, anyway? :)
By the time you wear out any of the current DSLRs, the available
technology will be totally different. No one really knows who will be
making the best system at that future date. I suggest getting something
that best fits your needs today and worry about the distant future later.
take care,
Glen
