It's "ok". The S20 dates to around 1998 and has a somewhat convoluted light path, limited dmax. It only delivers [EMAIL PROTECTED] data. VueScan drives it (on Windows only ... there were never any Mac OS drivers for the S20), and does a better job than the HP software.

A Polaroid Sprintscan 35E/S was a better scanner from the same era. Similar limitations on dmax but better results due to a better light path/focusing/lens ... I sold mine a year or two back for $100.

A brand new Konica Minolta Scan Dual IV is a FAR better film scanner than either, better dmax and higher resolution, is well supported by KM software or VueScan, and is USB 2.0 interface ... much faster and more compatible. It's only $80 more, $229 at B&H Photo. I highly recommend this instead of a legacy SCSI film scanner. It's worth waiting and saving up the extra money for.

Does anyone have any views on an HP Photosmart S20 film/slide scanner?
I am looking
to buy a film scanner since I do not shoot digital as yet. I have a
limited budget of $150
for a used scanner.

A guy on craigslist is selling this particular model so was wondering
if it is any good?
I intend to scan negatives for sharing pictures on the web and scan some slides occasionally to get prints made from the digital files (family, travel etc).

Thanks,
Gaurav
