They're fun family snaps, but you're right: the background is too busy.
One pot of flowers in the lower foreground would be fine perhaps,
although it depends on the rest of the scene. Trust your eye to create
a balanced and pleasing scene. Non photographers will generally try to
pack the picture with everything that strikes their fancy. It makes for
an unhappy stew. Take charge, young lady!
