I'm limited by the magnifications 
available. There is no zooming facility 
in a compound microscope. A lower power 
objective doesn't show enough detail. 
The one used for this picture was a 
10/0.25 Leica Fluotar. The image is 
salicylic acid (salicylate) crystallized 
from 70% ethanol directly on the slide 
under a cover slip. The picture was 
taken using polarized light, a Lomo 
aplanatic condenser and a Zeiss (Rot) 
full wave retardation plate. The 
crystals formed very slowly and that why 
they are so good looking. Final 
magnification is about 100X but I 
haven't checked this yet. The CCD 
doesn't fit the graticule in the 
binocular eyepiece (made for 35mm and 4 
x 5) so I have to do some arithmetic.

These pictures (a selection) will be 
printed -- big -- framed and offered for 
sale in the US very shortly. Some will 
only be printed once -- making them 
originals.
