1) Yes you can use a Pentax flash - and even the RTF - with yout ZX-
Pn for daylight fill-in and it will render nicely balanced results.
The limiting factor is the synch speed - 1/125 s is sometimes too
slow for fill-in since good background exposure would ususally
require a faster one. Of course you can stop the lens down but that
will much reduce the effective range of the flash and if you use fill-
in for portraits stopping down is not what you would normally like to
achieve since it increases depth of field - not the best thing for
portraiture.
2)As long as you use a dedicated flash the TTL-OTF metering in your
camera will take care of everything - it measures light reflected off
your subject in real time i.e. during the exposure.
3) The same is true of using a softbox - the TTL-OTF metering will
take care of correct exposure, but softboxes used on regular shoe-
mount flashes yield a very cumbersome combination and give you
neither portability nor really powerful (on the contrary - the
softbox takes away much light off your already not so powerful flash
unit) or large source of light. Photoflex makes small softboxes to
fit shoe-mount and bracket flashes; I don't think they are worth a
try.
