Audio is one area where you can not only get years, you
can get decades of usage out of a high end product.
I don't think technics would qualify as high end but yes
we get the point. That's why I have spent thousands on
my audio system, its WORTH it because of the product longevity
factor....

Well, I kind of admire my well made IBM Thinkpad. I might as well, as a 
486 is only good for admiring these days <unhappy chuckle>.  Electronics 
surely is a throw away technology. Hummmm...? Make that modern 
electronics, my 1979 Technics stereo receiver works fine, sounds great.
