I used Vuescan with the Dimage Scan Dual II with much improved results.
Since having the Scan Dual IV, I haven't purchased the newer version of
Vuescan... I haven't felt the need to improve upon the Minolta software out
of the box. But you never know...

There are no free scanner driving applications worth a damn.
There is nothing even remotely comparable to Vuescan for under $150 or so.
The only third-party scanning application that comes close and is the same
price as Vuescan Standard Edition is SilverFast LE ($49), and then you get
a version dedicated to one scanner that doesn't have all the capabilities
of Vuescan. The professional version, SilverFast Ai, is over $200.
KM's supplied software today is much improved from what I received with
the Minolta Scan Dual II in 2000. Vuescan is still more capable. I
considered that scanner nearly unusable until Vuescan implemented support
for it. I drive both the Scan Dual II and my Epson 2450 with Vuescan, have
been very happy with the results.

Is there any cheap alternative to Vuescan that comes closer? I am a

who got a Minolta Dimage Dual Scan IV yesterday. Last night wasn't a very

how to use all these scanning tools and photoshop etc.
But if someone suggests that another free software is better than what
came with
Dimage DualScan then I might as well spend time on that software's
learning
curve.
