A bit of background first: I am on a pretty tight budget now, my wallet says no enablement. But the enablement I am thinking about will really enable me.
More background: 1. I have no photo printer. HP claims the HP DJ 640C that I have to be one, but thats total nonsense. 2. I have a lot of old slides, near 2000. It is mainly family snaps, valuable because they are family snaps. But I think there are some keepers there. But I don't look at them. 3. I have got a lot of b&w family pictures (paper copies) from my old man. They are in small format. They seem to be decently printed. There are also some colour negatives. My sister would want copies, or jpg's. So now I am considering a multifunction printer. My heart says a dedicated scanner, a dedicated slide/negative scanner and a dedicated printer, but my wallet says definitely no. Not before Christmast, not in this decade, not ever. So now I am thinking of buying something not too expensive (I might even talk my wallet into buying one before Christmast). Some day, I hope and think my cash flow will change. Then I can reinvest in better tools. Perhaps I can rescan the keepers among the slides. So here comes my questions to the smart, educated, and experienced people on the list. I read a good test on Epson RX700 in a Swedish magazine (Foto). There it beats the shit out of a Canon MP760. Anybody who has something to say about this piece of hardware? Is there a chance it will do a decent job, or am I fooling myself even thinking about it? The RX700 also has a little brother, RX620, I believe it is nearly the same, just a bit slower, and not being able to write at CD's. Is this right? Last question: Is there other better alternatives worth considering? Tim Mostly harmless (just plain Norwegian) Never underestimate the power of stupidity in large crowds (Very freely after Arthur C. Clarke, or some other clever guy)
