No, the monitor is not calibrated, and no, I can't afford that at the moment :-( (Christmas is coming up, a lot of gifts to buy, more mouths to feed during Christmas and so on)
To be honest: I don't think my monitor is worth the price of calibration. What I've done is to set the white point at something I _know_ is near white. At screen it looks a bit yellow, but I believe it is near neutral. To uncheck "printer colour control" sounds like an excellent idea.
