I've also gotten very good results with an Agfa Duoscan 4800. That was a $5000 flatbed that was designed to scan both film and flat art. One of the agencies I worked for had one on lease five or six years ago. It produced very nice 4800 dpi scans from 35mm or larger film.

I have one of the little-brothers of that model, the Arcus 1200. To scan film you slide the glass plate out and replace it with a large multi-format film holder, so there is no chance of bother from Newton rings (which is why I bought that model over the Duoscan 1200).

It worked a charm but wasn't so good for 35mm as it can only do 1200ppi. I've used it to make some good 8x10 prints from 6x7 slides. At the time it was about the cheapest scanner available that could handle medium format.

I've since upgraded to a proper MF film scanner but have kept the old Agfa as it can also do large format. I've never actually shot LF but it is nice to be able to offer LF scanning capability. It also has some good document scanning features, although newer scanners may have improved on that.
