I had hoped the istD replacement would be available
and in my hands by June, but it appears that won't be

I guess that depends on your definition of available. I suppose one could
shoot color
negative film, take it to a one hour processing place then scan the print or
the negative.
Boone is a moderately sized town about a half hour away. There's probably a
quickie lab
there.
I'm pretty sure there's at least one good-sized Wal*Mart in Boone ...
