Significant is a matter of opinion. Remember that 6 vs 8 Mpixels is an area measurement, not a linear measurement.

9 Mpixel means 106% linear resolution improvement compared to 6 Mpixel. In real world terms, this means that if the current sensor can achieve 16 [EMAIL PROTECTED] resolution, a 9 Mpixel sensor should achieve approximately 17-18 [EMAIL PROTECTED] at best.

Typically, perceived resolution improvement is hard to call significant in increments of less than 1.5x (150%) to 2x (200%) ... It's simply hard to see it unless you're already working at the perceptual limits of resolution. For an 8x10 to 11x14 inch print, other factors such as paper surface and spot-spread will have a greater impact on imaging quality.
