Just my little joke - my real name is Val. Val d'Isère. Thanks to everyone who has contributed so far. It sounds like a good idea to learn without a camera at first then, if and when I try with one, to use something small, robust and simple. Please keep the ideas and thoughts coming in. I have a friend who made a living from mountain photography for 20 years, and I plan to discuss this with him soon, but I'm grateful for any information and advice from experienced people. -- Bonne Année!
