Not around here. One of the local chains (Henry's) has an entire store
dedicated to used, open box and clearance items. I get my stuff
pre-discounted there (the old film camera guy likes me, and I spend a
fair bit there every month, which eventually adds up to serious cash).
I've done some haggling, but usually stick to the 'what can you do for
me' method.

Not with those you list, but I have certainly bargained with almost every
photo store I've bought used from in the UK. It goes something like this:
"Is £50,000.00 your best price for this used lens cap?"
"We might be able to take a bit off".
"I'll give you 50p"
"OK".
They're in the business of moving stock across the counter. As long as they
make a profit (or minimise a loss) they'll do a deal. If you've ever sold to
a dealer, you'll know how much mark-up they put on the stuff, so you can
generally work backwards to find their best price.

I've had reasonable success with the chain stores, although they are limited in what freedom
they have to bargain by group protocols. The local "mom & pop" store's
original owner (the grandfather of the present staffers) is so hard nosed that I have had
almost no success at all. He comes across as this avuncular figure that is doing you a real
favour selling you something whereas, in fact, he is carefully removing your eye teeth along
with the contents of your wallet.
It's the only place in town that does secondhand gear now, though. Anyone else
noticed that there is virtually no secondhand stock in the shops any more?

Subject: Bargaining with used photo-gear stores
While I am in the question mode, let me ask the question I've
had in my mind for long time.
I wonder if anybody has
a) bargained
b) successfully bargained
with any of the used photo gear stores
(e.g. KEH, B&H, Adoram, Jackscamera, etc. or any local ones)?
If you have, - please tell your story, if you don't mind, or
at least just the result.
Thank you,
Igor
