"Soakaway?" Is that what we call a "septic tank" over here? For the
effluent from the loo?
We have septic tanks too, for those not connected to main sewers.
Soakaways (large pits filled with sand or gravel) are for rainwater.
Not always. My parents' ancient cottage in the Isle of Man uses a gravel
soakaway for everything from bathwater to loo water. I avoid visiting
after a period of heavy rain.
