My first instinct would be to make sure the owners are aware of the investigation. Though it he looses his job & it turns out the guy is innocent, I'd feel pretty crap.
On the other hand if I said nothing & it turns out he's guilty I'd feel crap too. Go with your gut Kevin. Make sure the owners know, they may already, & leave the decision about what to do to them.
