Hi John.
Not to be contentious, but... what *is* Schneider supplying, ....?
Apparently, just a name.
What's strange is that even if many potential camera-buyers nowadays are
more likely to have heard of Samsung than Pentax, it's extremely
unlikely that they will ever have heard of Schneider-Kreuznach. So
what's going on? Did some bright S-K man convince the Koreans that S-K
is a household name in Europe and the Americas?
Even in the my-camera-has-more-megapixels-than-yours digicam market a
significant part of the buyers knows that the lens is important for the
final image quality. This is a major advantage for the 'classic' five
camera brands. The 'new' camera manufacturers are countering by putting a
famous lensmakers' name on the camera: Zeiss for Sony, Leica for
Panasonic, Schneider-Kreuznach for Kodak and Samsung, Pentax for Casio and
HP.
If it's important in the digicam market, I'd say it's even more important
in the SLR-market. If you buy a SLR, you care about image quality, don't
you?
