I use a good RAW converter, Capture One LE, which gets the image into good shape. It's not too expensive.

Then usually I find Irfanview can do the rest, though I have a version of Elements and Picture Window Pro for use if necessary.

Thanks to all, so far,

I us e Photoshop7 for serious work, but this one cannot use RAW plugin.

I will try Irfanview, but I fear that user interfacing will not compare to Rawshooter.

Maybe I want too much: I want a mixed file handler, with the user interface of RAWSHOOTER and for free (or cheap)

There is no Photoshop "Lite" so Elements would be the choice with Adobe. Adobe is, to the best of my knowledge, no longer bundling Elements with
scanners, etc., at least here in the US.

Adobe Camera RAW 3.3 is a good choice, and Elements can use it. Also good,
if the point is just to view rather than view and edit, is the latest
incarnation of Irfanview, which is a free program. It'll open JPEG's, RAW, and more file types than you've ever heard of. It will set up timed slide
shows as well, and will open mixed files while so doing.

Jos, if you want to view all of the file types produced by your DS, you probably need to get something like Photoshop, either the CS version or

one
of the Lite versions which often come bundled with scanners, etc. Alternatives abound, and no doubt many on the list will advise you in various directions! For myself, I have found RawShooter excellent for batch conversions, but

if
I have time and want work with smaller numbers of images, I much prefer

to
use Photoshop, with the CameraRaw converter tool, working on one image at

a
time. Much more precise control over what the result will be, IMHO.

Elements (3 or 4) will work too.
