I'm not arguing with you, Rob, that they should be available new. I'm
just saying that one can equip oneself quite well by buying second-hand.
If I had the cash, there is not one desirable Pentax lens that I could not
have bought in the past year in excellent condition at lower than new
prices.
So:
1. yes, they ought to be available new,
2. but it doesn't matter; they're available second-hand (and cheaper).
Of course, if they stay unavailable for too long, the second-hand supply
will dry up. It's time Nguyen got off his backside and started assembling
some glass.

Yes and nearly at as new prices, this indicates to me that there is still
likely a market for the new items.
As for the FA* 200mm macro, a couple have been for sale in the past six
months, and had I so wished (translation: had I had the cash) I would
have
bought one.
Yep, I saw them on eBay too, however I believe that such lenses should
really
still be available new at least until there is an announcement of a
pending
replacement. This is the very real lack of continuity that others here
have
been discussing, it's a really poor policy and I'm sure I'm not deluding
myself
to assume that it's turned off many potential Pentax buyers.
