Because of live preview, when you want to take a shot the sensor has to
"clear itself" and get ready to go. On a poor specimen this introduces
a delay equivalent to manual focus when you forget which way to turn the
lens. The AF systems are roughly equivalent to SLRs.

A _lot_ less shutter lag. This is a huge advantage over the compacts.
