I'm sure this is often the case, as most people have very little idea how to
handle conflict productively, but it's by no means the norm. A lot of
wedding shooters wind up running into each other in the store I work at, and
without exception they've been not only polite to each other but friendly,
and either yak for as long as they can, or go for coffee. A guy I know just
jumped into the local wedding scene, and he's now friends with
several local pros. And this is Winnipeg... we're oversaturated with
wedding photogs. Of course this won't always happen, but a part of how you
are received by pros depends on your atitude and personality, and if you go
in there with a me-versus-them attitude, you're asking to be treated in a
similar manner.

I don't ~do~ weddings but I know what I see out there and it's not pretty.

Your shop is neutral territory, a place where civility ~can~ rein. But the
competition for contracts among wedding "newbies" with new autofocus cameras
is ~not~ nice, not ~anywhere~.
