By the way, this model has been around for about twenty years, but the earlier ones have a removable tripod mount, while the later ones lack it. There are a lot of lightweight 500/8's out there, and (of course) they vary in quality a lot. I'd say, though, that this is just about the best of the breed of the ubiquitous 500/8 mirrors. Besides having pretty high optical quality (for a mirror), it's also very good for close focusing. Fred
