Dave, Let's say after you waded through a batch of opinions from the "troops", you had access to both lenses to enable you to run your own tests. After eye blurring, mostly inconclusive comparisons, (slides or digital?) you finally decided that the 31 were slightly "better". How much is the "better" worth in terms of the personal satisfaction derived from owning one? Would you forever feel deprived and your work compromised without it? Obviously, these are the things that only you can weigh, but my guess is that you would never be disappointed with the images produced by the 31.
