I'm not saying it wasn't true several centuries ago, but there's
currently one religion making a greater attempt to impose its beliefs
on the rest of the world -- by force and fear of violence -- and
that religion isn't (nor does it claim to be) any branch of
Christianity.
No. By "us", Keith presumably meant, primarily, his fellow Americans,
and I'm sure the pressure on Americans to espouse a religious belief
comes much more from the various Christian sects than from any other
religion.
Well, actually, I hadn't thought about that aspect but, now that
I do, my personal experience is with my fellow Australians.
Right now, for instance, there is a debate in the Australian
parliament about the use of RU-486. Various groups are arguing
various points of view (which I will not rehearse here because
the issue is way, way, way OT) *but* the most easily identified
religious position is that of conservative Catholics.
