The outer casings are likely polycarbonate, rather than "plastic".
Plastic sounds like a child's toy; polycarbonate is a very good
construction material and is generally as good or better in terms of
dimensional stability than metal, and it can take impacts, and it's
much lighter.
I like light and strong. I like metal too, but it tends to be heavier.
