DS2 shares the DS's viewfinder, DL/DL2's a bit smaller at .85x

Then I think you ought to go back and check those figures again.
The dpreview specifications show 0.95x (& 95%) for the D and DS.
A first read of the DS2/DL/DL2 specifications doesn't seem to give
a numeric value at all for viewfinder magnification, but the figures
that Adam quotes match my recollection, too.
Viewfiner magnification is always quoted for a 50mm lens, without
compensating for the different angle of view of various sensor sizes.

Adam, I got these figures off dpreview, so I suppose they are correctly
listed.
Sometimes the magnicication is noted as "magnification", sometimes as a
"function" of the used lens, like this:
? Viewfinder magnification approx 0.94x with 50 mm f/1.4 lens (Nikon D200).
Someone might want to explain the difference og these definitions - if there
is one.

Jens,
The D, DS and DS2 are all 0.95x, the DL and DL2 are 0.85x IIRC

I believe he may be talking about the maginification (eye to
subject/viewafinder to subject), when the camera is mounted with a 50 lens.
It's true this one is apr. 0.75 for the *sit D and DS.
But that's not different from that of many other cameras - including the
D70.
It seems high end cameras usually have a magnification (eye to subject) at
apr. 0.8 1.0 using a 50mm lens:
20D: 0.90
EOS 1Ds: 0.70
300D: 0.88
D50: 0.75
D70: 0.75
D100: 0.80
D200: 0.94
D2Hs: 0.86

I don't understand.
At dpreview it says that the D and DS have veiwfinders with 95%
coverage and
0,95 magnification.
My *ist D user manual says so too.
What am I missing, please? Is Ken Rockwell talking about something
different?
Who knows? There has never been any sign that he has any idea of
what he is talking about, so how could anyone else know?
