The claim was accurate, the Maxxum 5 predates the *ist by several years,
and until the *ist, it was smallest.
The big puzzle, to me, is why does Pentax say the DA 40mm does not work
on 35mm? Mounted on a 35mm body, the small size and nice focal length
makes a wonderful carry around combo.
I've heard that some examples vignette on FF. I'd expect Pentax simply
wasn't ready to guarantee it, so they called it a DA. The focal length
makes more sense on FF anyways, IMHO. I'm a 40mm fan myself.
I don't know if the lens will improve my snaps, but when opportunity and
inspiration strike I will be more likely to have my camera with me.
