Yes, that's exactly how it's meant to work. I decided to try keeping the thumbnails completely out of the way.

I've had some positioning issues with IE5 vs IE6 vs everything else, which I've yet to resolve. Firefox does it right (I'm assuming that Firefox behaves the same on all platforms).

  If you wanted the thumbnails
alongside the pic all the time, it's not working for
me.

The reason I did it this way is because I couldn't figure out a good way to have the thumbnails there all the time, which would work for all aspect ratios (portrait, landscape, squareish and panoramic).
