I received a call at work today - my MZ-S arrived from Pentax
Colorado from its firmware upgrade to clear up its frame overlapping
anomaly. Basically I dropped it off last Monday after work and it was sent
out by my photo shop next day shipping to Pentax Colorado. Pentax sent it
back Overnight UPS on Monday.
I was anxious to get it back and specifically to see if the Pentax
Functions I had set were still as I left them - they were. I left work a
little early to go to the shop. What a stroke of luck! The Pentax rep was
in town - did he plan to make sure my MZ-S made it to my hands????? ;-)
Coincidence?? Just perfect timing!
It gets better. After chatting with him a bit of this, that, and
the other he asked me to go outside he had something for me. He handed me a
Pentax golf umbrella! Pretty good, especially since it was raining at the
time. He had fun when I took it in the store since all the sales clerks
were envious ;-) The shop owner pointed out that I did not play golf, I
just told him I needed it if I were to take pictures of him playing!
Good-natured fun.
I ended up spending almost an hour and a half at the store and
mostly with the rep, I could not monpolize him, he was there to do business.
I ended up with more than the umbrella. Through that time spent with the
rep I finally ended up with

I am still smiling. I also got to talk with him of things
photographic and Pentax. It was grand, all the talk did not have to relate
to Pentax, it was a refreshing talk with a rep. I also got to handle the
200 mm f4 FA* macro. Talk about beautifully balanced and light! I had no
problem holding the combination with the MZ-S with one hand. And talk about
nice manual focussing. I truly enjoyed handling the lens. Where do I put
it on my lens to purchase list?
Finally while discussing the void in my prime lens lineup between 50
and 100mm we were discussing the merits of the 77 and 85 offerings. He
finally turned to me and surprised me when he reached back into his bag and
decided to lend me his own personal FA 77mm f1.8 Limited lens for a few days
to let me see if I truly want to get this lens! Tomorrow night I will be
using it at the squadron's playoff softball game! Iam quite sure that the
77 will be on my purchase list, but what a perfect opportunity to field test
it!
I also had a chance to see the smallest 3.1? megapixel digital
non-point & shoot camera. Talk about small - definitely pocket sized and
with manual and non-programmed controls! You would not even notice you had
it with you. Could it supplant my Nikon Coolpix?
It was the most memorable photographic afternoon I have had
recently. I am still thinking about the opportunities to check out the 77
Limited on my MZ-S and LXs.
