The Nikon D200 is a 5.1 FPS 10 MP digital SLR camera.
It does not cost 8000 USD. In Denmark it's currently priced at 2000 USD -
this is 75% (!) of the price of the *ist D, at the time this was released
two years ago !!!!.

So, cost is NOT the issue here.

So, stop pretending!
If Pentax released a pro-spec'ed DSLR camera (10MP, and 5 FPS with
correspondingly fast AF) - a lot of you guys would certainly buy it.
A lot of D and Ds cameras would then hit the used market very fast. No doubt
about that!
Some of you might even prefere this to some pro spec'ed Canons or Nikons ;-)
I know I would ( 'cause then I could just keep my 20 Pentax lenses - some of
which are fast - F.1.4-2.8) and then go and "mashinegun" some very nice
high speed action shots - with a Pentax.

This is what Pentax needs to do IMO - in order to keep the (rather tiny)
market share.
And they will do just that - no doubt in my mind. I just don't know when.
The only problem is, it's getting kinda late, isn't it, if they want to also
expand that market share?

Regards
Jens

Exactly. And straightforward, easy-to-use cameras are capable of
anything most photographers might attempt. The lone exception might be
top-level sports journalism. But even for motorsports or the occasional
sporting event, the new Pentax should prove excellent. Hell, the
current D gets the job done. If Jens or anyone else plans on being one
of those guys standing behind the end zone (or the goal) with their
lookalike Canon outfits, then they should switch. For the rest of us,
the new camera will be just fine. I can't believe anyone here was
realistically expecting an $8000, 8fps monster camera. If they were,
I'd like to have some of what they've been drinking.
