If the D200 isn't good enough, I think the > decision is made for you. This is indeed bothering me a bit. High ISO performance of D200 is obviously in question. I was looking into D200 very seriously together with numerous sample pics, banding issue aside (I think I can live with the banding noise, and Nikon is now tweaking it a bit). I do not pretend to be any sensor expert, but reading various posts, there seem to be issues in both sensor itself and Nikon's processing system. People point out some flaw in Nikon's 4ch readout system to increase the burst rate etc. In any case, the sensor itself is Sony's off-the-shelf item for outside sale, and I am sure Pentax are aware of the Nikon's problem. By the time Pentax D would be out, I am hoping that Sony and Pentax have worked out whatever bottlenecks on the sensor side, if any. The press release clearly says that one of the features of new Pentax DSLR is high ISO performance. I would like to think that they say this with looking at D200 at the corner of their eyes (and they won't say it so publicly unless they have some confidence). BTW, the pres release does not say its Sony's. Only implicating to our interpretation. It's obviously not Samsung's but Kodak, Dalsa or any number of other suppliers. Perhaps even Sony's CMOS :-). Pentax is not married to any single supplier. OTOH, Canon showed some sanity, after leading the crazy mp race, by keeping the 8.2mp for new 30D, that surprised and impressed me :-). They already achieved the excellent high ISO performance, perhaps the best in the industry now, and chose not to go any higher on their mid level model. It keeps the file size at reasonable level for one thing. The best camera at this time would be D200 with 30D's CMOS inside :-) and hope that Pentax would have achieve such design level. Well, at least we now know what the Pentax's DSLR looks like from the horse's mouth. I will probably buy a 30D anyway just because I have several Canon lenses but am anxiously waiting for the "real stuff". Ken
