I just heard on the news that a class action suit has been started in
California. It seems that the camera isn't sufficiently "green." A vegan
group is looking into the possible use of animal products used in the
camera, and an anti-polycarbonate and pseudo-plastic group is also
concerned about the materials used in the camera body. There's a recently
formed 1/4000 group that is, as you suggest, contemplating legal action,
but the group is only in the formative stages of preparing an action plan.
Many are thinking it's best to take action before the camera is released to
head of any threat of possible environmental hazards the camera may
unleash, or emotional distress caused by release of prototype photos and
data. It's a minefield here, and Pentax is, I understand, preparing for a
long and difficult series of legal battles. Governor Arnold Schwarzenegger
wants to raise taxes in anticipation of any state involvement.
