That's curious, given that our SD-SD Tfr speed is very similar either my reader 
has a problem with my SD-CF adaptor or my adaptor is crap?

I notice a speed deficit in my *ist D (which is slow as a wet week as you know) 
when using the SD-CF adaptor and I know it's not a phycological response too 
because I forgot I was using it one time and the camera seemed sluggish to 
save.

I the innocent look of a set of contacts on a card masks the complexity of the 
interface electronics behind it. The tech is obviously a lot more complex than 
we generally perceive and the difficulty is that it's impossible to predict how 
one type card will interact with any particular host device without testing :-(
