Rob,
The only truly succesful full-frame 35mm sensors have been Canon's.
Nobody else has been able to make a 24x36mm sensor which can match the
APS-C sensor's performance. So what sensor was Pentax going to use in
the MZ-D?

I do find it amusing that we still wail that Pentax isn't "as good" as the

They haven't been "as good" as the competition for about the last 4 decades,
yet we all bought into their cameras.
Are we really that slow to catch on?
That I'd argue, their FF glass has been excellent for many years, it was great
in both performance and build, as good as any other manufacturer was producing.
Maybe the bodies weren't as top end but hell they were only a box for your film
back then, if you weren't into gadgets they were OK. Unfortunately this isn't
so in the DSLR age, the body is far more important than it used to be for
obvious reasons.
I just can't help think that Pentax's development resources could have been
more wisely utilized both in the original MZ-D development and of late the 645D
project. They obviously had enough cash that they could have done far more with
the K-mount line cameras than they have and a lot sooner.
