I'm not sure the close focus will be a big problem. I will not go for close 
close-ups, more "birds in their natural habitat, doing their bird things". 

Besides this, most of the birds are pretty large, like ducks, seagulls and 
such. 
But the price. Sounds steep to me. If I can't talk it down, it is out of the 
question.
