Having sent a camera with lens and a flash (on separate occasions) to
the bottom my self I'm not sure if staying away from Tom Van Veen will
quite be sufficient coverage, but it's a start. :)

That is an idea but (aside from the fact that I don't think that my
parents would go for paying half again the price in order to support the
local economy) the only camera store in the area is basically a Nikon
convent that is peopled by D2X toting snobs whose only interest in you
is caused by the contents of you wallet, so I don't go in there that
much. :)

I agree with you entirely about my parents (especially now). :) I'm not
entirely sure what you mean by "with your socks on" but I don't think
I'll ask.

Could some one illuminate me.
The DA 18-55 is f3.5 to 5.6 but at what focal length is it an f3.5?
